Maintenance
Contrary to popular myth, the maintenance of solid wood floors is neither complicated nor arduous. You do not have to rub in, and then polish off, solid wax products on your hands and knees !
Floors finished with a lacquer or varnish (hard finish) should be kept clean using a brush / hoover followed by mopping with a damp mop with a suitable mop additive such as Bonakemi Parkett Cleaner. Aftercare products such as Bonakemi Freshen Up or Parkett Polish can be used to ‘spring clean’ them once in a while, perking up the gloss of the finish and helping to integrate any small surface scratches.
Floors finished with a wax oil or wax (soft finish) should be kept clean using a brush / hoover followed by mopping with a damp mop and a suitable mop additive such as OS Wash & Care.
If you wish to develop the patina of a floor with a soft finish, a liquid floor wax (such as Liberon, Fiddes or Johnson) should be applied about every 3 months.
You should ensure though that you only use liquid wax products specially designed for use on solid wooden floors. These are generally applied with a mop or soft cloth over the end of a floor brush and then polished off a short while later in the same way. Bad scratches or particular areas of wear can also be treated with specialist products such as OS Liquid Wax Cleaner.
