Fixing Issues
Plaster
If you are installing a solid wooden floor into a room that has been recently plastered it is essential, as with concrete, that this be fully dry.
Although it is not in direct contact with the floor, if the moisture in new plaster has not fully evaporated before the timber is introduced, it will be absorbed by it.
As a rule of thumb therefore, we would recommend a minimum of 2 weeks between the completion of all plastering (not just in the room that is to take the timber as moisture will travel) and the introduction of wood to begin acclimatising. If you can leave it longer, so much the better, especially as damp weather can prolong the drying time.
If your heating is not on while plastering is taking place, this should also be on for a minimum of two weeks before the introduction of wood to begin acclimatising. It will push moisture from new plaster and if introduced close to the introduction of timber can effectively steam bath it, even though plaster appears dry. |
